Psychology is a broad field that covers all aspects of human behavior; good as well as bad ones. Mental Health is a very small part of it, although everything is determined by our mental state.
The core element of Cognitive Psychology is to study the motivation or the thinking behind the behavior in order to understand it and therefore be able to explain it to help manage the thoughts and emotions behind it
Once Understood – The insight, it becomes much easier to find solutions and remedies to whatever problematic behaviour, through cognitive processes. Psychology utilizes non-pharmacological interventions to help modify problematic aspects of one’s functioning. These include Relaxation and Somatic Quieting, Talk Therapies, Behavioural Scheduling, Activation and Modification, Experiments, and Guided Discovery in the Therapeutic Alliance. It is a challenging journey that requires a lot of courage, but worth every moment…

Mental Health (Psychiatry)
This is a very small part of Psychology. This is when ones health is compromised as a result of their mental processes to the point that they are no longer able to function productively in key aspects of their livelihood. Mental Health is more of a medical term – Psychiatry, and refers to a lot of the conditions listed in the Diagnostic Manual (ICD-11 and the American DSM-V) in order to guide standardized medical treatments.
While both Psychology and Psychiatry address Mental Health Conditions, Psychology goes way beyond psychiatric limitations.
Drug and Substance Abuse-Problematic Use and Addiction
Addiction, either to substances (Drugs, Alcohol, or any other solvents) or Behavioral Addictions like, Gambling, Sex, Porn, Social Media, etc… all require a structured approach. This is done through a thorough assessment of the problem to understand the nature and degree of the problem, before engaging interventions like Biological (medications) Psychological (CBT, DBT, MI) and Social: Family therapy and other social prescriptions among other interventions.
Treatment for addictions in Zimbabwe is a new concept, but Insight Wellbeing has a wealth of experience in the field. There is also harmful use of substances that is not necessarily Addiction, rather Binging. This is treated differently from addictions.
NOT EVERYONE THAT TAKES OR ABUSES SUBSTANCES NEEDS TO GO TO REHAB!!!
Going to Rehab or being admitted into a rehabilitation facility is a clinical decision that comes with specific treatment needs and goals.
